The inpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program at Bayview Behavioral Hospital offers comprehensive therapy for patients struggling with alcohol or drug abuse. The program offers treatment for:
- Patients who need drug or alcohol addiction treatment
- Dual diagnosis patients (substance abuse and a mental health condition)
- Patients in recovery in need of continuing support
Many patients seek treatment for substance abuse, but relapse quickly and may need multiple attempts at drug or alcohol rehab. At Bayview Behavioral in Corpus Christi, we work to understand what our patients need and give them the right tools to stay sober.
Many people struggling with drugs or alcohol may not realize they also have a mental health condition, like depression or bipolar disorder. Patients with both have a dual diagnosis. They may try to medicate their psychiatric symptoms with drugs or alcohol.
At least one-third of people with mental illness abuse drugs or alcohol and a similar percentage of drug and alcohol addicts have a mental illness. However, less than 10 percent of people get treatment for both conditions. Without treating both conditions, most patients relapse.
We work to understand everything contributing to a patient’s disease. Our treatment starts with assessments: psychiatric and medical. We manage any needed medications and then begin work with our comprehensive therapy. This includes education for the patient and family, group and individual therapy and providing support and plans for after discharge.
